How to Cancel Uber One Membership

This article explains how and why members cancel their Uber One subscriptions, and how to pause it instead of cancelling it.
Uber One

Uber One is a cross-platform subscription membership that provides savings and exclusive perks across both the Uber and Uber Eats apps. It replaces previous programmes, like UberPass, by offering a unified set of benefits for commutes and orders.

Uber One is an optional monthly or annual fee, so the subscription can be cancelled at any time, and in this article, we are going to walk you through how to cancel your subscription successfully without further charges.

How to Cancel Uber One

Follow the instruction below to successfully cancel your Uber One membership:

  • Open the Uber or Uber Eats app.
  • Tap the Account icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Tap Uber One.
  • Scroll and tap Manage Membership.
  • Select End Membership.
  • From here, you will need to follow the prompts to confirm and click Continue to continue.
  • After that, click "End Membership" again to cancel your Uber One membership.

However, it's important to note that you must cancel your Uber One membership subscription at least 48 hours before your renewal date to avoid charges. You will also retain benefits until the end of the current billing cycle.

Additionally, you must cancel your subscription through any third-party service you used to sign up. Another thing you also need to understand is that if you cancel within 24 and 48 hours of renewal, a charge might appear but is usually refunded.

Why Members Cancel their Uber One Subscription

The reasons some members might decide to cancel their Uber One subscription vary, but we'll talk about the common ones in this section. Many cancel their Uber One subscriptions due to a lack of real savings, persistent technical issues during the cancellation process, or a shift toward more specialised local alternatives.

Many users find that they do not use the app frequently enough, using it only 2 to 3 times per week, which does not even justify the monthly fee. Some members have reported "surveillance pricing", where they observed rides or food prices being higher for subscribers than for non-subscribers. Such behaviour has effectively participated in members' cancellation of their subscriptions.

How to Pause Uber One Instead of Cancelling

You can pause your Uber One membership for up to 2 months instead of cancelling it. Pausing it will allow you to keep your spot when you resume later. Meanwhile, it's important to note that you only have 4 pause limits in a year.

Another thing you should know is that the benefits stop during the pause period, but they'll automatically restart after the pause ends, and your original payment method and price will be charged.

To pause your Uber One membership subscription, open the Uber or Uber Eats app and tap "Account" at the bottom. Next, select "Uber One" from the options, then choose "Manage Membership". Tap "Pause Uber One" and choose your preferred pause period (usually 1 or 2 months). After that, confirm all your actions by tapping the "Pause Membership" button again.

Notably, Uber One paused memberships automatically resume after the selected period is complete. But you can manually resume the membership before the selected period is reached through the Uber or Uber Eats app. To do that, revisit the "Manage Membership" dashboard, as it's been explained in how to pause it, and tap "Resume Membership" to reactivate it.
