Starlink in Nigeria: types, prices, and monthly subscription plans

Here's everything you need to know about Starlink prices in Nigeria.
Starlink internet

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX that provides high-speed, low-latency broadband to remote and rural locations globally via a network of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). In Nigeria, you can use Starlink internet to stream, game, and make video calls. The device is built with over 99% uptime, offering speeds up to 150-200+ Mbps.

However, it's worth noting that Starlink offers various types of satellite internet kits, routers, or "dishes" that are designed for different needs. It's also worth noting that the prices of these kits and their monthly subscription plans differ, not only in the top-tier countries but also in Nigeria. In Nigeria alone, Starlink has over 66,000 active subscribers, so Nigeria cannot be sidelined.

In this article, we're going to walk you through the available types of satellite internet Starlink offers in Nigeria, their prices, features and benefits, comparisons, and their monthly subscription plans. The purpose of this article is that it'll help you to decide whether the Starlink internet service fits your internet needs and budget.

At the end of this article, you should be able to compare speeds, equipment costs, and subscription fees to determine the most suitable plan for your home, tour, or business. You should also be able to evaluate Starlink as an alternative to traditional internet service providers (ISPs)—like MTN, Airtel, etc.—or understand the advantages of traditional ISPs over Starlink if any of its services do not meet your internet needs.

Types of Starlink Satellite Internet in Nigeria

There are three types of Starlink satellite internet available in Nigeria: the Standard (Gen 3/V4) hardware kit for homes, the portable Starlink Mini Router for travellers, and the High-Performance dishes for businesses and mobile maritime/RV use. The Starlink kits that feature dishes are of three types: the flat, round, and square dishes, as shown in the image below.

These dishes must be mounted outside, specifically, on top on the roof to connect swiftly with assigned low-orbit satellite. Notably, Starlink internet kits feature low-latency and high-speed internet connections, with options for fixed, roaming, or priority data.

After the dishes are mounted outside, a single Starlink cable runs from the dish outside into the house and plugs directly into the Starlink Wi‑Fi Router. This cable carries both power and internet data and the router powers the dish and receives the satellite signal.

The routers in the image below are the three most popular Starlink routers.

However, it's worth noting that none of these routers is permanently tied to a specific dish. The dish and router work together as part of the same kit, but the subscription plan is actually assigned to the dish (terminal), not the router. The plan determines how the dish operates on the network—such as Residential, Roam/Mobile, or Business on Starlink.

The cost of using Starlink in Nigeria includes two main payments: the hardware kit and the monthly subscription plan. The standard Starlink hardware kit currently costs about ₦590,000, and it includes the satellite dish, Wi-Fi router, cables, and mounting tripod needed to install the system.
